An interesting old ad from the the 1950s that appeared in the German-language Herrenjournal. Men's Journal to you and me.
There is an interesting piece over at Put This On on nostalgia, attire, and the clothing brands we would miss were they suddenly to disappear. While there are quite a few things that I might miss, there are naturally also a number of items I most definitely would NOT miss. Two that come immediately to mind are, and it will be no surprise to you, the ubiquitous hoodie and the taupe/ecru/tan/eggshell/oatmeal/mocha fleece (with or without a company logo on the chest). When things become as common as these two pieces of attire have become, it's time for them to go. Let the purge begin. Let us miss them.

My vote for most fashion offensive clothing item is the baseball cap worn backwards. Men over the age of 30 should retire their baseball caps or at least wear them as they were attended, with the bill in the front.
ReplyDeleteBlue jeans with holes in them (purchased that way) are even worse.
Agreed on both counts! One would think that as quickly as fashion cycles change, these particular blots on the landscape, both in evidence for well over 20 years at this point, would have gone away by now. I'll add flip-flops to the mix. In hot weather at the beach or pool, it's one thing. But anywhere else and in the winter? Especially in the Upper Midwest. I'm not sure why we don't hear about many cases of frostbite anywhere there might be a college or university campus.
