High Summer Cafe Style. . .

T oday's attire, photographed while I waited an hour on the Young Master, who had an appointment two doors down.  The shirt has been a regular part of the summer rotation since May 1999, when I finished graduate studies in Madison and left for Norway.  The shorts about five years, and leather deck shoes since 2019.   And the pale, aging rocker bird legs?  Since, oh, the mid-1960s or so. In other news, I took advantage of their recent spring item clearance and ordered a lovely blue plaid sports jacket from J. Press yesterday.  Should be here soon.  Look for a photograph or two once it has had minor alterations, and I am back on campus at the end of next month.  And speaking of Norway, today is sunny, breezy, and cool here in Mid-Michigan.  Dee-light-ful!  Very like summer in Scandinavia and the Nordic countries.  Not unlike typical September weather in this part of the U.S. either come to think of it. -- Heinz-Ulrich

Something Old, Something New. . .

N othing borrowed, but something blue.  A new L.L. Bean polo in a mid-blue (Listed in the catalog as 'Emerald'?) on top today with an old pair of faded Nantucket red shorts and my go-to worn leather Sebago dock-siders on the bottom.   Trying to collaborate remotely on a whitepaper about community -engaged and service learning with a couple of colleagues.  And avoiding the activity for the moment, so thought I'd share two shots of today's attire.   Easy, comfortable, and relatively presentable clothing for a cloudy, cool late July morning at home before I shuttle The Young Master to math tutoring and Tae Kwon Do classes later this afternoon.  Whoever said summer was relaxed was lying. -- Heinz-Ulrich

Saturday Apres Mow Style. . .

A ll showered and finished outside for the day when it comes to lawn care and yard work.  I've promised to whip a fruit salad for dinner before the three of us head out on our bikes for a Tour de Cul de Sacs around the neighborhood this evening.  The Young Master has a nifty, new adult-sized orange Trek to try out. The shirt pictured, in any case, is an old comfy navy blue number purchased for me by my dear, departed mother in about 1998.  The olive green chino shorts are a more recent purchase to replace a fraying pair, which has been relegated to lawn mowing and yard work wear.   Yet another variation of my usual at-home summer attire.  I'll pack similar gear for our approaching trip "up North," as they say here in Michigan, in about three weeks. Can't wait! Now, where did I leave that large glass of iced tonic water? -- Heinz-Ulrich

A Saturday in July. . .

S eersucker and khaki for a sunny, breezy, and blissfully cool Saturday here in Mid-Michigan today.  The Grand Duchess and Young Master have headed off to an air show "Fly-in" while yours truly mows the front yard, addresses the bed of thistles, and hangs around the very quiet house.  Ahhhh. . . -- Heinz-Ulrich

Casual July Style. . .

I n full summer mode here a few days after the 4th of July holiday.  Here's the attire for the day, an old (almost 25 years) cotton twill shirt from L.L. Bean and a chino shorts from Land's End that are at least 10 years old.  The shirt is actually more orange than it appears here.   Frayed in places and no longer suitable to wear away from the house, but but still works for some light yardwork outside late this morning and a large glass of mango juice over ice on the back porch afterwards.  Tucked in, of course.  A navy and orange ribbon belt from Leather Man or C.C. Prep completes the picture although it is not visible here. In other news, The Young Master earned his red belt in Tae Kwon Do last Saturday.  The Grand Duchess and I are so proud of his focus and determination over the last 3.5 years.  With any luck, we will have a black belt in our midst this time next year.  And possibly (hopefully) assisting his instructors when he turns 14 in the fall of 2023.  Cross your f
