Saturday Podcast Style. . .

Three hours today (Saturday) down here in Zum Stollenkeller finishing a script, recording, and adding post-production to a podcast that I hope will help support my students' efforts in the two courses I'll teach this fall and later.  Very casual, yet a nice, muted mix of colors.

The L.L. Bean polo shirt is just about the same shade as the t-shirts we used to get at my old YMCA summer camp outside Reading Pennsylvania, Camp Conrad Weiser.  Still in operation, but co-ed since about 1982 or '83.

I am sure things are very different now from when I was a camper, but lots of wonderful memories of summers there during the latter half of the 70s and into the very early 80s.  A much simpler time.

In any case, my son, The Young Master, has a similar green polo shirt in a smaller size, which we ordered for him in the spring.  Growth during the colder months meant he needed a few new things to get comfortably through the summer and into the early fall.  The green looked so nice on him that I ordered one myself.

Alas, the  men's large in this shade of green was out of stock, so my shirt only arrived a couple of days ago. Still, better late than never.  We can often get away with summer casual gear at home until well into September, and occasionally the warmer October afternoon during the first half of that month.  So, there is still some time to enjoy the new shirt.

Otherwise, I am looking very forward to picking up that new J. Press sports jacket in navy plaid from the tailor's next week as well as getting back into more professional attire Monday through Friday.  Casual attire is nice, but the novelty of it wears off by the time we reach the latter half of August each year.

Like many in the online traditional menswear community, my mind turns to tweeds, corduroys, and wool flannel suits as the cooler/cold months approach.  Ahhhhh. . .

The Problem of "Business Casual" Attire. . .

This is how it's done.  Business Casual the RIGHT way, ladies and gentlemen.  Even during the summer months.  A photograph (taken by Studio B Portraits ) which appeared in 425 Business Magazine in May 2017.   T his post on the problem of business casual dress began as a quick postscript to a previous blog entry last week but quickly grew and grew as additional thoughts occurred, were developed in more detail, and revisions made.  So much so, that it seemed, eventually, like a better idea to make the initial P.S. afterthought into its own entry .  Are ya ready, Freddy?  Then, here we go. . .  ------------ U nless you actually plan to sell beach snacks and trinkets on Cozumel, become a serial barista, or greet customers at a fancy nightclub after taking out huge student loans to attend university somewhere for four or five years, plus an MBA afterward, it's really a better idea to err on the side of (somewhat) more formal work attire any time you head into the

"If you see something you want. . ."

The above photograph has been "borrowed" from the J. Press website. "I f you see something you want," advised my late mother, "buy it.  It won't be there when you go back later."  A favorite (and wise) adage hers that I still follow whenever possible.   So when this item appeared on clearance at J. Press, I mulled it over for a couple of days, and then clicked the requisite boxes to make the online purchase.  Should be here within the week. Once upon a time, I had a similar jacket by Corbin that I foolishly purged before we left Central Illinois ('Illi-noir' anyone?)  for Michigan almost 10 years ago.  Not sure what I was thinking at the time since I did like the item and wore it routinely.   This one will be a bit nicer and help me make sartorial amends.  At least to myself. -- Heinz-Ulrich
