Saturday Farmers' Market Style. . .

The Grand Duchess and I ventured out to our local Saturday farmers' market late this morning for a couple of hours sans the soon-to-be-14-year old child. It was bliss.

Layered items for this chilly mid-autumn days included a vintage L.L. Bean Norwegian fisherman's sweater (from when they were still made in Norway), corduroy jeans, navy and orange ribbon belt, and flannel shirt, plus a the Classic Anorak shell from L. L. Bean, which I've had for over 20 years now.

And, of course, my Phi Kappa Phi ball cap since my hair needs a trim and would not calm down even after the usual morning brush before I headed downstairs for that first mug of coffee about 9:30am.

Of the hair, the less said, the better. Something between Ricky Nelson, Yahoo Serious, and Leonid Brezhnev. But back to the farmers' market!

Locally produced and grown items purchased included apples, fresh apple cider, maple syrup, and various traditional Chinese buns, with sausage and hard-boiled egg inside, plus deep-fried turnover dumpling thingies. A fresh coffee for me and tea for Sonja were also on the agenda. We then made the quick trip to a local orchard for apple cinnamon doughnuts and an apple slushy for the Grand Duchess. The doughnuts were still warm, which was an added treat.

Finally to the paint store and then home again as the rain resumed. Overall, a nice morning and midday out. And as the photographs illustrate, although it might be the weekend, one needn't dress like an 'urp-slop' to be comfortable and cozy.

The Problem of "Business Casual" Attire. . .

The above photograph has been "borrowed" from the J. Press website. "I f you see something you want," advised my late mother, "buy it. It won't be there when you go back later." A favorite (and wise) adage hers that I still follow whenever possible. So when this item appeared on clearance at J. Press, I mulled it over for a couple of days, and then clicked the requisite boxes to make the online purchase. Should be here within the week. Once upon a time, I had a similar jacket by Corbin that I foolishly purged before we left Central Illinois ('Illi-noir' anyone?) for Michigan almost 10 years ago. Not sure what I was thinking at the time since I did like the item and wore it routinely. This one will be a bit nicer and help me make sartorial amends. At least to myself. -- Heinz-Ulrich
