Friday Multiple Zoom Meetings and Committee Chair Style. . .

The top half for a Friday Zoom marathon. Whew! Yet again, the ol' J. Press 3/2 tweed jacket and one of several blue OCBD shirts made dressing for the day of meetings online pretty simple. Dressing presentably need not take a lot of time, a commonly heard complaint trotted out by too many 'terminal boys' whenever the subject of slovenly male appearance across all levels of society comes up.

After yesterday, Friday, I am no longer sure which is more fatiguing mentally. Meetings face-to-face the old fashioned way? Or via an online application like Zoom or Microsoft Teams?

Certainly a string of meetings throughout the day is tiring, regardless of how they happen. Presentable dressing and comfortable attire, however, help with the inevitable tedium. At least you feel good while trying to keep your eyes focused on whoever might be speaking at the moment.

Sadly, I was the only man sporting a necktie in any of the meetings of which I was part. However, this particular necktie never fails to garner a compliment or two when I wear it. Not necessary, of course, but always nice to hear.

And the bottom half, featuring suede brogues, matching belt and some new old corduroy dress pants, purchased back in 2004, when I was in my first teaching position after grad school. Until recently, they have been too snug in the waist and seat. All of the slimming down since last September -- about 27-28 pounds lost at this point -- has made them quite comfortable once more. A little loose even, which ain't a bad thing.

The Problem of "Business Casual" Attire. . .

Then, here we go. . . ------------ U nless you actually plan to sell beach snacks and trinkets on Cozumel, become a serial barista, or greet customers at a fancy nightclub after taking out huge student loans to attend university somewhere for four or five years, plus an MBA afterward, it's really a better idea to err on the side of (somewhat) more formal work at...

Friday on Campus Style. . .

S omewhat atypically, I was on campus for several hours today helping with an interview that is part of a larger documentary project on which a colleague and I are working. Although I am behind the camera (I'm the audio guy in fact), what better reason does one need to dress presentably? Exactly. Everything worn, barring the recently purchased University of Wisconsin socks, a gift from the Grand Duchess, has been in the rotation for a while now. And, of course, there was the Panama hat, which I'll wear until we pass October 1st when the felt fedoras reappear. -- Heinz-Ulrich

Tan Suit Tuesday. . .

W hile it's now after Labor Day here in the U.S,. we still have almost three weeks left of summer according to the calendar. And since today was bright, sunny, and pleasantly warm (though far from hot), it seemed like a perfect opportunity to trot out my tan cotton suit and tan loafers/belt. Slightly disheveled, yes. And the shoes need some Renovateur to moisten 'em up But not a bad overall look if I might be so bold. -- Heinz-Ulrich
